To be honest, I don't really know how to explain these genre features to my students...I am not an English export. I am not sure if I am teaching them something correct. We need English teachers' help. Teaching LAC is overall a very challenging and demanding process.

I myself can certainly write clearly in English to answer the questions on the exam papers, but I have few ideas in terms of how I should teach my students to write like that... You know, the writing process mainly takes place in your mind; it's very difficult to visualize how I think every step to my students. Maybe it takes time to see the effects.

This is the first our school initiating the LAC program. My reflections are based on my very limited experiences. When I tried to involve English teaching in an EMI math lesson, I found some maths concepts really tricky and I need to be very familiar with them; this is somewhat challenging to me as an English teacher. I didn't really use much L1 in the lessons; I guess next time I will try to be bolder, to integrate more bilingual resources in my LAC practice.

I understand that nowadays we emphazise a communicative approach and drilling practices receive more critics than compliments, but I think they do work, especially when introducing a new grammartical form to be applied in the final writing task. I think drilling can be integrated into LAC as long as it meets our teaching and learning goals.

I am just not sure about whether this LAC idea can be integrated with Maths content. In math, we've got our particular way of thinking, which is different from other subjects; plus, the same word may have very different meanings in daily English and in math language. Would this cause double burden to my students when teaching math and English at the same time? Or maybe it works, but is it worth it?

Mentally preparing your students is definitly important and effective. I did so. Otherwise, students would just freak out and assume that the LAC lessons are just another form of English lessons (which most of them hate and fear, tbh) including endless dictations, grammar exercises. You need to tell them the role of English here is to enable them learn more about the content (which they may find interesting). It's not easy but worth trying.
